Saints Alive!
Doesn’t everyone like to have friends in high places?
I write a column entitled 'Our Friends in High Places' about the celestial friends we
all need in our inner circle... the Catholic saints. It focuses on a
modern-day theme associated with a different saint each week. Not just
the standard biographical snapshot, these write-ups show how the saints
faced many of the same human challenges that we do and encourages
readers to form personal relationships with one or more. In today’s topsy-turvy world, people are searching for a source of higher meaning. As
our outer reality becomes more unpredictable, inner connections are
more valued. Who better to 'connect the dots' to the true reality of
God than the saints? |
My readers are both young and old. Many are adults who previously left the church and are now finding their way back. These Baby Boomers and Thirty-somethings are looking for their spiritual roots and wanting to settle in parish communities again. With them they bring an infusion of new energy and financial support. They tell me that they find themselves coming full circle in experiencing once again a spiritual bond with the saints who touched their hearts in their youth.
My intent is to share the stories of the saints with both practicing Catholics and those looking to reacquaint themselves with the church. The time is at hand to make the saints known to an ever-widening audience around the world! So if you have a newspaper or e-newsletter and would like to include a weekly or monthly column about the saints, drop us a line!
